Biofilm Formation by Streptococcus Serotypes on Dental Plaques
Abstract
A biofilm is an aggregate of microorganisms in which cells adhere to each other on a surface. The biofilm forming capacity of five isolate of streptococcus species were tested by microtitre plate assay. The assay was optimized in LB broth for 48h incubation, fixing of cells by heat and staining using solubilizing solution. The optimized microtitre plate assay can be effectively used for the assessment of biofilm ability of streptococcus strains. The highlight of study was the testing of large number of streptococcus strains belonging to several serotypes. Majority of streptococcus strains are shown to form biofilms on dental plaques.
